概要: This paper deals on the escape from the house fire on heavy snowy areas during winter and context to induce further aggr avation of fatality. The Mid-Niigata earthquake (M 6.8) which occurred on 23rd Oct 2004, caused many casualties. Many houses were either destroyed or damaged from earthquake shock already. The snow precipitation of more than 2 m. in depth after earthquake made the situation worse. In addition to that, density of snow was too high measuring 3.4kN/㎥ to 5.0kN/㎥ which caused difficulty in removing the snow. About 30% of the habitant of study area were of aging society and unable to remove the deposited snow from the roof as well as building surrounding. In such circumstances, fire occurred by any cause could make the heavy loss of life and property. For instance, a house caught in fire resulted in death of four people in the Tochibori of Nagaoka city of heavy snowy area. The study revealed that the main cause to happen such incidents were the lack of escape ways as the main entrance of the house were hindered by the pile of snows. In addition, back doors and windows were bolted from wooden planks to prevent from the snow. In order to prevent from heavy loss, any house should be provisioned with two escape gates. The study suggests that government as well as volunteering group should be focused to clear the heavy snow in the resident of aging society as well as economically deprived area. 続きを見る

概要: We obtained facilities for monitoring of geothermal waters and climate observation supported by the Grant-in-Aid of Niigata University and built up the observation systems in November 2000 at two stations of Sasakura-onsen and Yakeyama-onsen located at the foot of the Niigata Yakeyama Volcano. The main purposes of this observation are. (1) to catch any signals in relation to volcanic eruptions, (2) to predict various volcanic hazards on and after volcanic activities such as volcanic mudflow and debris flow. In particular, it is most probable that volcanic mudflows occur in snow-covered area caused by rapid snowmelt on volcanic activities. We have observed temperatures of geothermal waters and climatic condition such as atmospheric temperature, precipitation, snow cover and weight, etc. since November 2000. 概要: The purpose of this study is to clarify the distinctive feature of "machiya" in Niigata, especially focused on the common-use space such as "hiawai", "dashiai" or "kuiawase" in Takada, Shirone and Tochio. The results of this study are as follows; (1) "Zashiki" in Takada, which has the family altar between the room and "do-ma", is used for Buddhist mass and formal reception. But "chano-ma" in Shirone with the family altar opposite side of "do-ma" is used for that. (2) The limited space between two houses are equipped for "tokono-ma", family altar, stairs, closet and so on. This is called as "hiawai" at Takada, "dashiai" at Shirone and "kuiawase" at Tochio in Niigata. (3) In Shirone "tokono-ma" and family altar are equipped as "dashiai" at "chano-ma". But "hiawai" in Takada dose not have so bigger depth to have these as "dashiai". For that, "zashiki" is furnished with the family altar at the side of "do-ma". (4) "Chano-ma" is void both in Takada and Shirone. "Machiya" of Takada has not the ceiling but Shirone. There is the relation between these difference and the shape of roof (the gable of "machiya" is faced to the street in Takada but the side of eaves is so in Shirone). 続きを見る

概要: The subject of this study is to clarify the properties of the dwelling environmental dual-system that has mutual relations between children and playgrounds in snowy districts. The results of this study are as follows ; 1) There are two types of playgrounds, one is the spaces where children play both for non-snowy and snowy periods, the other is only for either one. 2) The parks and the spaces around public facilities are the former type, which are hard to be affected by the fallen snow. 3) The streets and the vacant lands, that are the latter type, have the different properties. In snowy period, the vacant lands have the close relations with their homes, and the streets with the way from the school to their homes. 続きを見る
