Techniques used to dignose the breast cancer were evaluated for correctness with 135 of the 150 cases which were treated at our clinic in 1988. Excluded were the 15 cases which underwent outside biopsy. The diameter of tumor mass was 2.0 cm or less in 67 and 2.1 cm or more in 68. By inspection and palpation, the basic examination, the diagnosis was established or suspicious in 83.7% of the 135 cases and established in 48.1%, where practically no further examination was … necessary before mastectomy. The diagnosis was definite in 34.3% of the small lesions and 61.8% of large lesions. Mammography was definitely positive in 50.4% and positive or suspicious in 58.5%. Ultrasonic examination and cytologic examination by fine needle aspiration were performed in 69.6% and 67.4%. With tumors which were 2.0 cm or less in size, the ultrasonic examination was positive or suspicious in as high as 90.7% while definitely positive in only 27.9%, suggesting that latter rate may be raised if images are improved. Mastectomy was indicated based on physical examination and mammography in 19.3% and ultrasonic and cytologic examinations in 40.0%. Biopsy was further added before mastectomy in 40.7%. Biopsy was performed in 62.7% of the small masses while the rate rate for large ones was as low as 10.1%. 続きを見る
