概要:
After introducing of respirater to the respiratory difficulty of the patients with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, there have been reported patients whose life were over ten years under the respirater control. 107 patients (male 65, female
…
42) were registered as ALS in Niigata in 1988. An quetionnaire study disclosed that 24 of 42 patients among them were under respirater control. Most of them are bed patients under tube feeding and cannot move nor speak. Quality of life of these patients were severely restricted but they have a hope to live everyday. Method of communication with them is great problem to resolve. Expression of their wills is difficult, but performed by touching a switch of a buzzer, or yes no movement or eye signs, using cards or ward plates. Ward processor is useful for complicated communications or expression of their thought like a letter, a haiku or a record of self disease experience. Today's problem and future theme that their quality of life will be better, is to make a social system accepting and supporting them.
