概要: Bacillus circulans WL-12, a yeast and fungal cell wall lytic bacterium, secretes a variety of polysaccharide degrading e nzymes into the culture medium. When β-1,3-glucanase was induced with pachyman, a β-1,3-glucose polymer obtained from the tree fungus Poria cocus Wolf, six distinct active molecules of the enzyme with different molecular weights were detected in the culture supernatant of this bacterium. Molecular cloning of one of the β-1,3-glucanase genes into E. coli was achieved by transforming E. coli HB101 cells with recombinant plasmids composed of chromosomal DNA fragments prepared from B. circulans WL-12 and the plasmid vector pUC 19. A recombinant plasmid containing 4.4kb of inserted DNA in the PstI site of pUC 19, designated as pNT003, conferred the ability to degrade pachyman on E. coli cells. The presence of pNT003 was harmful for E. coli cells and caused cell lysis, especially at higher temperatures of cultivation. β-1,3-Glucanase activity detected in E. coli was mainly recovered in the periplasmic fraction when cell lysis did not occur. SDS-PAGE analysis revealed that the periplasmic fraction contained four active molecules of β-1,3-glucanase which corresponded to four of the six active molecules produced by B. circulans WL-12. 続きを見る

概要: A new signal processing system for real time displacement measurement in sinusoidal phase modulating interferometry is d escribed. Although sinusoidal phase modulating interferometry is effective in measuring with high accuracy the displacement of an object, conventional signal processing takes a long time. In this method, detection of the object's displacement is easily achieved by sampling the interference signal at those times that satisfy certain conditions and by processing the sampled signals with electric circuits in real time. 概要: We propose a new type phase locked interferometer which uses tunability of the wavelength of a laser diode. The phase lock is achieved by controlling the injection current of the laser diode. A CCD image sensor is used as a photodetector to scan electrically a measuring point along the surface of the object. Since this interferometer uses no mechanical elements such as a piezoelectric transducer and galvanomirror, the measurement accuracy is not limited by the mechanical properties. The characteristics of the feedback control system for the phase lock are examined through measurements of surface profiles of the diamond-turned aluminum disks. 続きを見る

概要: Hardness is influenced by mechanical properties of a spherical indenter in the elastic-plastic transient indenting process. To clarify that point, we indented steel and tungsten carbide spherical indenters into several standard blocks for hardness. In order to experimentally establish the relations of the elastic-plastic transient indenting process. we related the hardness Pm (mean contact pressure) with the true profile coefficient of a permanent indentation (d/Dp), not with an apparent profile coefficient (d/D) used traditionally, and formulated as follows; P_m = P_<up> (dlD_p)^<I_p> We can calculate the hardness affected by the different mechanical properties of the spherical indenter using this formula for arbitrary conditions. Further, we compared the Brinell hardness obtained by Yoshizawa with our calculated values, and found good coincidence between them. 続きを見る

概要: An experimental study has been made on the flow of viscoelastic liquids in thin films held between a flat plate and a spherical surface of a large radius of curvature. In particular, the case is investigated when a spherical surface begins to roll on a flat plate from stationary and contacting state. Dilute polymer solutions are used as viscoelastic fluids, whose properties are elastic but Newtonian in viscosity. Compared with non-elastic liquids, some effects are shown: The point of cavitation is far from the center of contact where the thickness of the liquid film is minimum. The thickness of the liquid film, generated with rolling movement, is larger than that of non-elastic liquids. 続きを見る

概要: An experiment was undertaken to determine how obstacles in tunnels affect microwave propagation loss. The major emphasis of the study was on determining the propagation loss due to the following parameters: number, location, and size of vehicles, and cross-sectional shapes of tunnels. The laboratory experiments was performed using tunnel models with arched and rectangular cross sections. The dominant mode was transmitted into these tunnels from entrances. Different readings of field strength were taken along the length of the tunnels to determine the effect that vehicles can have on the propagation characteristics. The scale ratio of the tunnel dimensions to the wavelength is about 2-3. It is shown that the basic propagation loss due to vehicles in tunnels is determined mainly by the number and the size of the vehicles. Vehicle location and tunnel cross-sectional shape do not affect the propagation loss significantly 続きを見る

概要: Radio propagation characteristics in an underground street crowded with pedestrians are presented. Measurements were carried out on vertical and horizontal polarization characteristics in a frequency range from 250 MHz to 12.4 GHz. In the analysis, the region with pedestrians is modeled as a lossy, homogeneous dielectric slab. Based on the method of effective dielectric constant, some numerical results are presented for the attenuation constant and for the field distribution in the cross section and are compared with experimental data. 概要: Experimental results of radio propagation characteristics on roads on snowy or snow-capped mountains are discussed. Propagation tests were carried out on the horizontal and vertical polarization characteristics in a frequency range from VHF to X-band (150 MHz to 4.7 GHz). Field strengths along the road and field distributions in the cross section were measured. The attenuation constants in a straight-road section were obtained by the least-squares method using measured data. It is shown that the attenuation constants are experimentally minimum in a frequency range of 1-3 GHz for each polarization, and that field strengths in the cross section are close to cosine distribution in the horizontal direction, and in the vertical direction increase nearly monotonically with increasing elevation 続きを見る

概要: This paper reports experimental results of radio propagation characteristics both in an underground street and in corridors in a large building. Measurements were carried out on horizontal and vertical polarization characteristics on the propagation loss in a frequency range from 200 MHz to 12.4 GHz. The influence of pedestrians on the attenuation constant is also measured in the underground street. 概要: A systematic synthesis is presented to realize any digital filter into a power-wave digital filter. After three canonical matrix representations are introduced, a set of key concepts which comprises cascade interconnection of digital two-ports, pole localization, and computability is presented for the canonical cascade synthesis of lossless digital two-ports. The synthesis procedure consists of global decomposision and local decomposition. The procedure is so general as to give a unified solution to arbitrary frequency responses realization, and is so useful as to find new circuit structures. The synthesized circuits are of robustness and modularity. An illustrative example is included. 続きを見る
